” I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a token of a covenant between me and the earth” (Gen. (9:13)
There are many beautiful sights to see in this world that we live in. The flowers in the spring, snow capped mountains in the winter, sunsets in the evening, and the heavens at night just to name a few. God has certainly created a beautiful world for us to live in and enjoy. But I think out of all of God’s creation that we see all around us, nothing is more beautiful than the rainbow with its breathtaking colors and sitting high in the sky for all to see. There is an old folklore that says there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If you go looking for this pot of gold, you’ll be disappointed because it is not there. There is no pot of gold that comes with the rainbow but there is a covenant that comes with it. After God destroyed the world with water He told Noah and his sons, “And behold, I establish my covenant with you, and your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, this is a token of the covenant which I made between me and you and every living creature that is with you for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a token of a covenant between me and the earth, And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: and I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh”, (Gen. 9:9-15).
When I look upon the rainbow I not only see its great beauty but I am also reminded of the covenant God has made. Thousands of years have passed and God has not destroyed the world with water as He promised and He still puts the rainbow in the sky to remind Himself of this covenant He made with Noah and his sons…………Pastor Ken
